Susan Ritter, Chair, is a partner in the Middlebury law firm of English, Carroll, and Ritter. After graduating from Middlebury College in 1983, Ms. Ritter attended Temple University School of Law, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1986. Ms. Ritter returned to Middlebury in 1995, and as well as practicing privately, served as the Attorney for the Municipal Law Center for the Vermont League of Cities and Towns, in Montpelier, Vermont from 2001–2002. Ms. Ritter currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Mary Hogan Elementary School and Porter Auxiliary Board, has served previously on The Board of Trustees of the Middlebury Congregational Church, and is the past President of the United Way of Addison County.
Joe Sutton, Vice-Chair, is the owner of the Waybury Inn in East Middlebury. Between 1980–1996 Mr. Sutton served as both a Regional Controller and General Manager for Radisson Hotels, managing the Burlington Radisson between 1992–1996. During Mr. Sutton’s tenure, the Burlington Radisson was honored with four President’s Awards for superior guest services, with the 1993 award being the first in the hotel’s 17-year history. Prior to purchasing the Waybury Inn in 1999, Mr. Sutton was the General Manager of the Cherry Hill Hilton, in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Mr. Sutton presently serves on the Board of the Addison County Economic Development Corporation, Porter Medical Center, and Addison County Chamber of Commerce.
Robert J. Duclos, Treasurer, was born in Middlebury in 1929. After attending Middlebury College for one year, Mr. Duclos began his professional career at the National Bank of Middlebury in 1951, and became the Chief Executive Officer of the Bank in 1964. After retiring in 1991, Mr. Duclos became a Board Member and holding company President until 2005. Over the years, Mr. Duclos has served as Trustee, Director, or Treasurer of the Addison County Grammar School, Middlebury School District #4, Middlebury Union High School, Porter Hospital, and the Middlebury Community House.
Deb Venman is the Vice-President and co-founder of Beau-Ties Ltd. of Vermont, a catalog and on-line retailer of handmade silk bow ties and accessories, which are manufactured at its Middlebury plant. Prior to her current venture, Ms. Venman served for several years as Executive Director of the United Way of Addison County, and Chairperson of the Porter Medical Center’s Board of Directors. Ms. Venman later passed the Vermont Bar after reading for the law, and became a partner in the Middlebury law firm of Neuse, Smith and Venman. Ms. Venman is a graduate of Mt. Holyoke College.
Rob Alberts, President, is a local businessman and owner of Middlebury Fitness and Community Investment Counselors. Middlebury Fitness is a full-service fitness and wellness center offering programs for people of all ages and all fitness levels. Community Investment Counselors is an investment firm committed to building long-term financial security for its clients, primarily through fee-based asset allocation programs. Mr. Alberts currently serves as the Vice President of the Board of Directors of the United Way of Addison County, and serves as a Governor-appointed Commissioner for the Vermont Housing Finance Agency. Rob was also a high school and college basketball coach for seventeen years. Rob, wife Sarah, and their three children, live in Bridport.
Michael G. Stone attended St. Michael’s College for one year in 1970 before returning to construction. Having been involved with the family business since childhood, construction was a way of life and has continued to be for over thirty-five years. Michael has been employed by Barr & Barr, Inc. for ten years, the past six years as a Construction Project Manager. He has been involved with successful construction projects at the University of Vermont, Middlebury College, Vermont Technical College, Green Mountain College and many other private and public institutions. He is very active in youth programs, has coached youth sports and is active in Church youth ministry and Sunday School. Michael and his wife Kendal live in New Haven. Their three adult children and eight grandchildren keep them young.
